Will Governor Pritzker’s proposed budget proposal math help increase or decrease State tax revenue in Illinois and perhaps help speed up voters to elect legislators to support school choice or school vouchers in Illinois?
The Chicago Tribune article titled: The two linchpins to Pritzker’s budget, DC and Democrats reported the linchpins. The one linchpin is questionable on math as to whether it will increase or decrease the States revenues according to this following statement
“The Opportunity Scholarship program enacted under former Gov. Bruce Rainer has helped more than 20,000 students — many of them stuck at low-performing public schools — attend private schools without taxpayer money. Private donors who support the program receive a tax credit on their Illinois income taxes. Pritzker proposes to chop the credit donors would receive, making it a less attractive program for donors who support school choice and are more generous due to the tax credit.
Fewer kids would be eligible for the scholarships; there’s already high demand and a waiting list. “
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate and ancient wisdom verse to question the math of this proposal/
King Solomon
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2 NIV)
What’s My Point?
If we question the math surmising that the private religious schools will not be able to afford to accept the 20,000 students now attending, and they leave the school to attend a public school, it will result in the State having to pay the average State payment per student of $13,000 x 20,000 or $students to add to the budget.
The Total being $260,000,000 to be paid by taxpayers.
I do not know how much the State budget math surmised the State would gain by their budget proposal
However, if you consider that if the private schools lose 20,000 students more school closings will add to the totals even more.
In other words, the math may be meaningless and may hopefully spur taxpayers to consider that the entire public school system of government run schools need to change to school choice or school vouchers.
In My Opinion
If the Illinois budget passes as presented, and if you read a previous post of the math which explains the difference in costs per student be paid to fund of private resinous schools to public schools, there is are billions of dollars difference.
Billions of dollars savings that taxpayers might wake up and vote for legislators to support school choice or school vouchers which is now possible. Possible because of the 2020 Supreme Court ruling that overturned as unconstitutional for States to pass laws to prevent taxpayers’ funds be used for private religious schools because it violates their First Amendment Rights.
Then add that private schools somehow managed to stay open during the pandemic, plus students achieve higher test score results, plus most parents especially in poor poverty areas want to send their children to school of their choice for various reasons, mainly because they want their children to learn their religious values or according to the following statement.
“Black parents love charter schools and voucher-supported private school vouchers because they teach values, self-respect, and hope. But no, if this option for poor or lower-~income parents has more Democrat opposition than ever.”

You Decide
Is the budget math prove “”Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”
Will or should, the proposed budget “help speed up voters to elect legislators to support school choice or school vouchers in Illinois???”
