Is there another word for risk reduction philosophy?
The Chicago Tribune article titled: Can harm reduction curb case reduction, contained this statement.
“They said, ‘Don’t you think it’s good to shame people doing something harmful?’” he recalled.
His response, he said, was that authorities need to appeal to people’s moral side.”
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient wisdom proverb to the message that the writer’s message of risk reduction is just another name for what was observed 3000 years ago.
King Solomon
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. (Proverb 27:12)
What’s My Point?
In the USA every school child is taught about their Rights to freedom of individual choices. As for morality, the rule of law is taught instead of the values of morality in the Bible which center on religious philosophies of wisdom and love.
The pandemic is a study of risk reduction being mandated by government prohibition laws which the article states: “These mandates are not especially enforceable,” he said. “People will follow them if they want to. I think it’s really important to create conditions that incentivize and encourage that.”
My point is risk reduction is just another name for wisdom which has been available for 3000 years.
In My Opinion
The article also states: “……said experience has amply demonstrated the ineffectiveness of trying to eradicate risky behavior through shame or government mandates.”
King Solomon method of shaming persons for not being prudent was very simple and to the point according to this proverb.
The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice. (Proverb 12:15)
Or in other words, if you believe in religious philosophy of wisdom and love to guide your path in life, you will be philosophies guided by religious morals instead of government mandates to be wise to be prudent in life choices. As for the pandemic, the risk of the harm of being infected and passing on the infection to people you love, especially the most susceptible to becoming a fatality because of age or health conditions will guide you to make prudent instead of foolish choices in the land of freedom.
As for the philosophy of freedom, 2500 years ago, Socrates, best known in history for philosophy, stated: “Democracy then soon degenerates into tyranny. In tyranny, chaos reigns. There is no discipline. Democracy was taken over by the longing of freedom. In tyranny, stability through power must be maintained and along comes a person that experiences absolute power. The individual soon transforms in a tyrant and comes closest to be fully lawless. He can murder and plunder at will.”

You Decide
Would school voucher help to reduce the risk factors in life by returning the freedom of parents the affordability of school choice to teach their children the wisdom and love to prevent them from following the path of folly in their lives.
Is risk reduction really another name for wisdom?
How effective is secular schools in teaching morals based on secular philosophy compared to religious philosophy based on the shootings taking place in Chicago and other high crime urban cities.
Will the government ever fund a study to compare how many convicted criminals were taught in a public secular school experience compared to convicted criminals who attended private religious schools?
When will we wise up in the USA to understand risk reduction is just another contemporary word phrase for ancient wisdom and love that has been around for over 3000 years?
