What would King Solomon advise us to consider this Thanksgiving Day which for many has been a really, really lousy year?
The belief of a nation being thankful and giving praise to God was recorded in the Bible three thousand years ago. Faith believers will be thankful for the blessings a beneficent Father bestows on them from the Heavens.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient story told by Abraham Lincoln who instituted Thanksgiving to be a National Holiday with King Solomon verses.
Excerpt Wikipedia – Solomon’s Seal
It was also used in 1852, in a retelling of the fable entitled “Solomon’s Seal” by the English poet Edward FitzGerald.[2][better source needed] In it, a sultan requests of King Solomon a sentence that would always be true in good times or bad; Solomon responds, “This too will pass away”.[3] On September 30, 1859, Abraham Lincoln recounted a similar story:
It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence, to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: “And this, too, shall pass away.” How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction![4][5]
In My Opinion
When we celebrate this 2020 Thanksgiving, perhaps this story will serve to perhaps keep in mind to hopefully cheer us up as King Solomon’s following verses.
King Solomon Ecclesiastes Excerpts
A Time for All Events in Life
3:1 For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity on earth:
that it is best to be content with present things, and cheerful in them, and thankful for them; that all comes from the hand of God; that such good men, who have not at present that joy that others have, may have it, since there is a time for it;
Enjoy Life in the Present
3:12 I have concluded that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to enjoy themselves as long as they live,
wherefore it is best cheerfully to enjoy the present good things of life,
3:13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God.
enjoy the good of all his labor; take the comfort of what he has been laboring for,
In Other Words
“Make God the center of your life and in this way, all of the activities of life will take on a rich meaning and the human heart will be satisfied. Strive to end each day in peace and contentment knowing that we have brought about something of joy, comfort, beauty, or improvement, into the world Yahweh created for us. I believe that in the eyes of our Creator, no endeavor we engage in to accomplish this purpose will be too big, too small or insignificant a role or task. Take pride and satisfaction in your work by dedicating them to the Lord.”
Regards, goodwill blogging, and Happy Thanksgiving.
