Are alcohol, drug, gambling addicts victims of a disease, habit, “or something else?”
The Chicago Tribune John Kass Article titled, Ruling on sports betting would bring quite a laugh, contained this statement.
“Gambling addicts have a disease and Government bets on its citizens to lose.”
Now that the Supreme Court has ruled Congress has no authority to overrule States passing laws to prevent every state government to become bookies.
The purpose of this post is to explain the “or something else”about the controversy of addiction being termed a disease rather than a foolish result explained in ancient proverbial Wisdom.
King Solomon
You can be ruined by the talk of godless people, but the wisdom of the righteous can save you. (Proverb 11:9)
Wine [is] a mocker, strong drink [is] raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.( Proverb 20:1
)T thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.(Proverb 25:15)
What’s My Point?
Government by the people, for the people and of the people allows people to make their own free choices to live their own lives. However, when people become addicted as a result of their foolish choices, should taxpayers have to bear the costs to pay to care and treat the resultant social costs, medical, mental, rehabilitation, incarceration, family support, etc. etc.
In other words, if you read the article, the criminal boss guy who profited from supplying vice products and services knew and understood this following article statement.
“He understood human nature and the price of politicians, and how to profit from weaknesses, so he knew about gambling, (or drugs, cigarettes, sex, etc. etc).
He also knew this, provide pleasure to your customers, and the pleasure will become habits. Human brains have wired to remind people constantly to seek pleasure. In time the pleasurable habits become addictive.
My point is if government logic is they will eliminate the crime bosses and use the profits from vice tax revenues for government pet projects. Problem is that the more available the vices become, and with the help of professional marketing, there will be greater number of users over time. Medical science has proven that a significant percentage of users will become addicts, require professional medical care and social services. The end result will be more taxpayer costs than the vice profits.
The final result is Government, rather than criminal bosses will be promoting medical and social problems for it’s citizens to become losers in life. Over time the sin taxes will not produce enough revenue to pay for redemption costs to rehabilitate the losers from becoming future burdens in their communities over time.
Then our Nanny Government and Charities will be on the hook to pay the costs to redeem the addicts that become addicted to a bad habit that is being given a description as a disease instead of what it really is. When the pleasurable habit becomes folly of wise moderation, the habit becomes addictive, and fools and foolish conduct in their lives is the result.
What to Do?
If you compare this logic to a religious teaching, instead of the brain reminding you to seek pleasure, it is an evil spirit that reminds you of the pleasures of sin. Religion or Spiritual Wisdom recognizes that everyone born will over time become a sinner in need of redemption in their lives.
Spiritual Wisdom reminds brains of how sin leads to breaking down individual, family, friends, and communities over time.
King Solomon wisdom advises us to enjoy life in moderation, and not to sin by obeying the Ten Commandments, and community laws.
Secularists, Atheists, or Godless people all are aware of one truthful fact, even if they do not believe in a God.
“We are the masters of our own disasters.”
You Decide
Should Government, or private business who profit from sin taxes be made to put the profits in Trust Funds costs to communities to care for societal addicts and liabilities?
If private business administered sin industries were required to care for resultant addicts care, how many private businesses would go bankrupt over time and require Government Bailout?
Should taxpayers be given the same freedom of choice to send their kids to private business schools, to educate people with wisdom on how not to become Godless people?
Is the “or something else,” the result of communities and government promoting a society of “Godless people,” and the folly that results?
Are voters the real “Masters of their own disasters, or,” the something else?”
Did reading this post give you “quite a laugh,” same as the criminal in the article?
Regards and good will blogging.
