Should Obama practice mindfulness to help him to stop revealing his foolish thoughts and prejudices?
“Every night her boyfriend picks her up and takes her to the forest preserve lover’s lane to make out.”
If you consider how her statement revealed something about herself. How did she know that unless she herself was at the same forest preserve parking lot, perhaps making out too?
How Does This Relate to President Obama?
Compare the above example to the words Obama recently stated about why the Democratic Party lost the Presidential election.
“In this election, [they working class Americans] turned out in huge numbers for Trump. And I think that part of it has to do with our inability, our failure, to reach those voters effectively. Part of it is Fox News in every bar and restaurant in big chunks of the country, but part of it is also Democrats not working at a grass-roots level, being in there, showing up, making arguments.”
If you discern this Obama statement, is he, same as the high school girl, revealing that he frequents a lot of bars and restaurants?
Or perhaps,
Obama is catty, hateful, or perhaps jealous of Fox News?
In My Opinion
You may hear all kinds of opinions about why the Democrats lost the election from news commentators. However, both Obama and Trump have huge egos. The real reason the Democrats lost was because of a dinner roast that took place in 2011.
Watch this short video and you decide if you agree. HERE
What is My Point?
Both men have high egos and need to be mindful and gracious with their words because of what King Solomon advised in these three-thousand year Proverbs of Wisdom.
King Solomon
The words of a wise man’s mouth [are] gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. (Proverb 10:12)
A wise man is careful what he says, and how he says it. His speech is full of grace. His tongue is used to build people up, instead of to tear them down.
A fool talks loud, and says things he has not considered. He destroys others with his speech, and in turn destroys himself.
The beginning of the words of his mouth [is] foolishness: and the end of his talk [is] mischievous madness .(Proverb 10:13)
The more he talks, the worse it gets. This talk of this foolish person is what they are inside. Their hearts are filled with mischief, and that mischief comes out in their speech. The speech gets worse every time he or she speaks.
Two Thoughts I Recommend
The first is they should both read two sources below about how words reveal and to practice mindfulness with their words.
The second is to try to emulate this man’s wisdom and graciousness before they speak or act out in response to personal attacks, even when they may be wronged by words of fools.
“Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”(Luke 23:24)
