When war becomes necessary, what does a wise leader do?
There is a long list of fools in history that sprouted up and waged wars instead of obtaining wise mutual agreement on the issues to prevent war. History also records the brave and heroic deeds and sacrifices made by many heroes we honor in the USA every year on Memorial Day.
In a novel excerpt, I surmised what King Solomon, based on his proverbs, may have explained to the Queen of Sheba about war in her biblical visit three thousand years ago. The novel is a contemporary application of a story form to promote understanding of proverbs and ancient wise sayings in relation to our modern times.
I hope and pray our political leaders may read and follow his wise advice because I fear another crop of fools appears to be sprouting up again, based on the current event news I am hearing and reading. Peace prevailed during the entire forty year reign of King Solomon.
Excerpt
“As for the question if we are obligated to join in warfare with Egypt, the answer is no. The alliance I made pertains only for trade issues. We will not participate in any political conflicts of their makings, nor will they in ours. In the event of an invasion by hostile nations, we must agree separately at that time to provide mutual aid. This I promise you, I will never agree to participate in any war waged outside of our lands without your counsel and unanimous agreement.”
“Now I ask for more of your questions as well as your advice. You have just heard the presentation of plans for our defense by Banaias. Now we want to hear your suggestions. We must remember in our plans that there are many nations with greater land areas and populations than ours will ever be. We must make the wisest choices and uses of weapons and resources to protect ourselves. If we are to survive as a nation, we must be wiser than our enemies. We must severely defeat any adversaries that invade us and take no quarter or mercy upon them to serve as both a lesson and example to others that may have similar ideas.”
The meeting continued for hours. When we finally ended the meeting, I was pleased that we all were in agreement with wise plans to increase our safety by everyone participating in strengthening our defenses. A wise man has more strength than a strong man does, and a knowledgeable person consolidates power; for expertise is needed to wage war, and safety lies in many advisers. (Proverb 24:5, 6)
