scatter wisdom: Windy City Sanctuary Wisdom or Folly?

Should the new welcome policy include ‘hope’ for the homeless too?

The Chicago Tribune articles: Windy City now the ‘Welcoming’ City, reported:

“Chicago has been a welcoming city and a city of immigrants since its founding.”

And the article titled: For many without homes, a shot of hope, reported:

“We want people who are experiencing homelessness to know they are a priority.”

The Purpose of This Post

Is to relate an ancient Bible verses and explanation of the purpose of sanctuary cities use and need along with the history that followed in the past and future of sanctuary cities.

“The cities of refuge were sanctuaries to which those who accidentally killed another could flee.”

Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee

You have heard that it was said, “Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.” But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek

What’s My Point?

In the Old Testament ancient Bible verses provided sanctuary cities for people to flee if they killed someone until Judges ruled their actions were unlawful revenge or an accident.

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ’s message changed the old belief to instead of seeking revenge, to forgive trespasses against each other and believe God will judge the offender.

Chicago history is indeed steeped in welcoming immigrants, and sadly, a reputation in of crime, gang wars, revenge shootings, and separation of communities banding together by cultures.

For example, when I was a youth, if I lived in an Italian neighborhood and attempted to date a girl in a different culture neighborhood, I risked being beaten into a bloody mess by the different culture. Same if I entered a different gang member territory and tried to sell my legal or illegal merchandise.in their area

The same scenario is now occurring now in Chicago gangs selling drugs and instead because guns are more available than in the past for younger gang members, instead of being beaten to a pulp, I would be shot.

In Italian neighborhoods, the Black Hand marking on a door either signaled a person to be marked for revenge or a warning to not go to the police or be a witness.

My point is today, Chicago has a reputation for shootings mainly based on anger or revenge because the difference in ancient times and in contemporary times, the belief in religious authority to be Judged in the Old Testament, or to forgive in the New Testament has waned as neighborhood schools and community Church’s continue to close for laced of funds.

In My Opinion

In a previous post, I mentioned that Chicago has 55,000 abandoned homes. Add that because of the present shootings a gang violence, many people are moving out of Chicago because the police cannot protect crime witnesses and the present trend in laws is to end bail if someone is arrested which will only provide more witnesses to the ancient Black Hand tactics of gangs.

Many immigrants were welcomed in their communities by their culture immigrants and many religious charities help them to provide food, shelter, and community until they found employment and were able to care for themselves

However, in my opinion, private charities are already limited in funds and resources and since the government has become the main source of providing subsidies instead of private charities, welcoming sanctuary cities are going to need a lot more government subsidies.

The issue of fairness and equity arises when government funds are used to welcome and subsidize immigrants and not the homeless wandering the streets needs to be addressed in sanctuary cities.

And if school vouchers or school choice is not provided by legislators to fund religious values to be taught to children to understand the New Testament religious values, the Old Testament values of revenge will prevail. Prevail to increase the present Chicago Violence, same as was experienced in the past in Chicago.

Do you believe legislators in Sanctuary Cities have never been taught or understand if they are making wise or foolish decisions or are prepared for the same occurrence to again repeat in their communities? Especially in their own communities which is now more prevalent with Old Testament revenge experiences more so than New Testament religious beliefs?

Will legislators be wise or foolish to pass School Choice or School Vouchers in hope that the Sanctuary Cities Welcome will over time help restore Christian religious values in communities experiencing high crime statistics in Chicago and Illinois?
