…for the collateral damage of families with members of drug addicts.
Will two Chicago Tribune articles about the Illinois January 1, 2020 legalization of recreational marijuana this past week change the 1 in 10 families lives that lead to drug addiction nightmares.
One article reported the health risks of 1 in 6 adolescents and 1 in 10 users will be susceptible to progress to more potent drugs and become hard core drug addicts. The article ended with a question for readers to consider.
The second article reported an incident of a father killing his drug addicted son.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to warn potential new users of the health and social risks they may subject themselves and the potential for family members when a family member becomes a hard-core drug addict living in a household and in need of money to fund their addictions.
And to relate a king Solomon proverbs recorded 3000 years ago to the articles.
King Solomon
Whoever robs their father or mother and says, “It’s not wrong,” is partner to one who destroys. (Proverb 28:24 NIV)
24Wisdom is the focus of the discerning, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth.
25A foolish son brings grief to his father and bitterness to her who bore him. (Proverbs 17:25-26 NIV)
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it. (Proverb 22:6 NIV)
Hear, my son, your father’s instruction,
and forsake not your mother’s teaching,
9for they are a graceful garland for your head
and pendants for your neck.
My son, if sinners entice you,
do not consent. (Proverb: 8-10)
and forsake not your mother’s teaching,
9for they are a graceful garland for your head
and pendants for your neck.
My son, if sinners entice you,
do not consent. (Proverb: 8-10)
What’s My Point?
My point is to warn parents that it is their duty to warn their children and themselves about the health and social family risks that will become more available in Illinois on January 1, 2020/
While present news article and statistics from other States may state legal marijuana is no big deal, it can become a big deal to both families for the 1 in 6 adolescents and 1 in 10 adults according to the CDC, Center for Disease Control..
Police, medical personnel and social agencies who have and will have to deal and confront drug addicts know too well what to expect when legal recreational marijuana opens up a nine market to attract more potential users. Their warnings and advice have obviously been discounted by politicians and lawmakers.
In My Opinion
I have personally seen the effects and consequence when someone in a family becomes a drug addict and it is truly sad. Drug addicts living with family will be driven to rob and steal from parents, arguments will intensify, some girls will become prostitutes to fund their addiction, homelessness and mental problems, brain damage. Loving parents will borrow and spend lifetime savings in hopes of rehabilitating their children, and taxpayers who will pay for victims who cannot afford medical needs..
While politicians and proponents will discount the considerations of the effects of those as risk as collateral damage, whether from higher car accidents, health costs, higher car insurance rates will be meaningless for the family’s grief who become addicted.
In other words, when you read or hear someone state an opinion that recreational marijuana is harmless,”it ain’t necessarily so.”as the song verse explains.
My advice to parents who already use marijuana to never use it in front of your children because as the Chicago Tribune article suggested:
“Talk to the family of a person addicted to marijuana. They’re not going to say I’m glad they’re addicted to that,” she said. “A lot of people are just going to add marijuana to alcohol.”
And for parents or adults who are considering trying to use recreational marijuana now that it will become legal and they may be the 1 in 10 meaningless victims of collateral damage:”.
“How much do I want to be doing this?”

You Decide
Will legalized recreational lead you and your family to incur the risk of becoming a hard-core drug addict?
Will you ask yourself before you try for the first time and risk becoming collateral damage: “How much do I want to be doing this to myself, my family, friends, and community.
Will you as a parent give wise or foolish advice to your family members about the potential risks especially if someone in your family became addicted to drugs or alcohol because medical evidence has proven three are DNA links in certain families to become “collateral damage” in society/ Same as observed by King Solomon 3000 years ago and repeated in every generation since as recorded in history
Will we mortals ever wise up and understand that “nothing is new under the sun.: Every generations will produce another army that will march in of Saints and fools who will either listen and obtain understand and knowledge of wisdom in order to not follow behind and listen to the music of Pied Pipers politicians and news medial to drown in avoidable misery. When instead they can read and follow the teachings of wisdom and love in the Bible that lead them to peace, joy, and happiness.
Was “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” or does a wise father duty to make unnecessary foolish risks occur to his family?
