Why are news media and political leaders seemingly concerned about health hazards for cigarettes and vaping products, but not recreational marijuana?
The Chicago Tribune article titled, How would millions of dollars in fees on e-cigarettes be spent? Sen. Dick Durbin and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi have a plan for that., reported a Senator’s concern about teen ager use of vaping products.
After cigarettes caused cancer and various other debilitating and deaths for decades, Congress finally obtained billions of dollars to distribute to States to help pay for health care costs for millions of Americans who believed advertisements that cigarettes were not the cause.
Now Senators want to tax Juul to pay to educate teens not to use vaping products which are unlawful to sell to persons under 21. Most of the deaths were probably because users loaded non Juul products that contained THC, a cannabis marijuana derivative product into Juul inhalers. The CDC, Center for Disease Control Agency of the USA, still does not know for certain if the THC or oil used caused the deaths.
However, there will not be any health warning labels, similar to cigarette health warnings for recreational marijuana to be legally sold come January 1, 2020 in Illinois. Only similar labels that are put on foods.

What’s My Point?
Ask any doctor if smoking, whether cigarettes, vaping, or marijuana is bad for your health and they will advise you not to inhale anything but air into your lungs.
Yet, the majority of recreational marijuana will be inhaled into users’ lungs seems to be of no concern to either news media or politicians who support the sale of recreational marijuana.
In spite of the CDC warnings available for anyone interested in the health of themselves, their family, and their community
Unless of course, they are the same as King Solomon observed 3000 years ago and described the leaders to be fools, or “deceitful wicked men, are to trick, and overreach, and defraud their neighbors in civil affairs?”
Deceit, hypocrisy, folly, or lack of common sense by news media and/or politicians?
In My Opinion
I concur with Senator Durbin’s plan to tax producers to pay to educate and warn users not to use the products will debilitate or kill them. Why should hard working taxpayers have to pay to warn uniformed users of the risks or hazards to their health makes sense?
Or to have to pay higher medical insurance rates because insurance is basically a pool of userss, some wise and healthy, some fools who risk sickness by engaging in unhealthy addictive habits to obtain personal pleasure.
However, why health warnings information was overlooked or ignored to be affixed to any smoking product, especially after millions of Americans were tricked and died because of false advertisements to believe that cigarettes did not because cancer is beyond my comprehension.
