In a previous post titled, King Solomon, Should Men Cry, I compared the differences between men in women roles in life on why men don’t cry in public.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to have second thoughts about why our world might be a better place if men cried in public rather than in private or during prayers.
Lachrymatory Bottles Definition
A lacrimatory or lachrymatory (from the Latin, “larimar”, a tear) is a small vessel of terracotta or, more frequently, of glass, found in Roman and late Greek tombs, and supposed to have been bottles into which mourners dropped their tears. (Google)

What’s My Point?
In the previous post based on the thoughts of a devout Christion woman writer, I referenced a contemporary physiatry article of why men don’t cry in public because they are trained to believe it is a sign of weakness.
Karen gave an example of King David Psalm “Your number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?” (Psalm 56:8)
Her point was: “This verse shows us one important thing that God actually never leaves us alone. Even when we feel like “abandoned by God”, indeed, God doesn’t leave us. God is on collecting and taking note every tears of our crying and as if He said, “My child, I will never leave you alone…Please be patient… Just a little more time will be fulfilled and I will declare my glory”
My Second “Far Fetched” Thoughts …
….is based on the remarks of the Captain to relatives attending a basic training graduation. The Captain stated to parents and friends that the men and women we watched march into the room were no longer the same as they were before their training.
They were now and forever be military men and women.
When the ceremony ended, the graduates marched out of the room in step and shouted out in reply to a Drill Sergeant cadence. What I heard these young men and women shout out was upsetting when I realized that indeed, they were no longer the same as the Captain stated.
Frankly, I cried an old man’s tears after hearing the words in the cadence because I remember the young boy who graduated with honors as a child from the day he was born.
Then I remembered the psychiatry article statement
“Combat soldiers can’t stop in the middle of battle to have a good cry. In fact, since most combat soldiers have been men, warfare throughout the centuries may have contributed to the cultural rise of the tough, tearless hero.,”
My point is to wonder if the world be a better place if men were trained instead to cry in public and in addition to wearing medals on their apparel, they also displayed a lachrymatory bottle of their tears.
In My Opinion
If you study history of what men have done to each other after a battle and killing an enemy.
For example, carving notches on their rifle stack, hanging human scalps their belts, or what King David did as explain in this following Bible verse.:
David took his men with him and went out and killed two hundred Philistines and brought back their foreskins. They counted out the full number to the king so that David might become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage.

Today our solders display medals on their chests.
My farfetched thought is to wonder would our world be a better place if men instead displayed carried lachrymatory bottles to display the tears they shed in battles.
Would this display be a mark of their wisdom to understand and display the despair of war and hopeful change the folly we mortals’ scheme?
As for Karen’s thought that God is patiently waiting and gathering tears, perhaps he is also waiting for his human creations to wise up and end killing each other.

You Decide
Wise or foolish, far fetched thoughts or perhaps something to consider to help change our world to become a better place.
Was King Solomon’s Ecclesiastes also second thoughts in his despairing verse or was it a sign that he too was shedding a tear about what he observed 3000 years ago.
That same world that has never changed in regards to war regardless of all his observations personal experiences and wisdom advice.
