King Solomon, Opium and Liberalism, “You Can’t Have Your Cake and Eat it Too?”

s it wise or foolish to provide Opium Addicts government taxpayer-funded facilities to obtain free ‘fix?’ Will doing so result in treatment and cure, or an incentive for drug addiction?

The Chicago Tribune Steve Chapman Editorial Perspective titled, How to prevent overdose deaths and how not to, reports an editorial liberal columnists’ opinion of punitive policies of drug offenders.
While I heartily agree with the writer’s opinions on the need for a temporary aid because of the present drug crisis, we need to consider the wisdom of a 15th-century proverb, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
The purpose of this post is to communicate the folly and hypocrisy of progressive liberal government policies, and/ or compassionate people, of passing legislation that leads to incentives to choose to become a drug addict and at the same time make taxpayers pay for the sad effects of drug addiction,
King Solomon
Give alcohol to a man who is going to die, and wine to those who are sad, that they may drink and forget their poverty, and remember their misery no more. (Proverbs 31:6, 7)
Keeping in mind the differences over time in the use of wine was used as a drug on people who were dying, while in our contemporary times, drugs are now used to reduce pain by altering mind and body senses.
Above all else, guard your heart, (mind, thoughts) for everything you do flows from it. (Proverb 4:23)
Ancient wisdom described the heart as the center of control of mind and body, the proverb gives a warning advice to guard your life against making foolish choices that lead to the death of body and soul.
It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, a thirst for alcohol is not for rulers; lest the drink and forget the laws and deny justice to the poor. (Proverbs 31, 4, 5)
Wisdom warned foolish men with powers of community leadership, including legislators, pundits, and news publishers, that they should not become alcohol or drug addicts because it will affect their sound judgment on both themselves and their followers.
 In My Opinion
While I heartily agree with the writer’s opinion for opium addicts to be provided free medically supervise opium injections because of the present drug overdoses, I believe it should be only a temporary measure because of the experiences of other countries.
In a previous post in the Source Links below, I provided information on Netherland experiences doing as the writer suggests since 1973 which is now finding that by doing so it leads more gang and criminal influence and additional needs for more police intervention,
In another previous post, I suggested laws be passed to temporary provide free opium in every local hospital if the addicts would agree to drug treatment programs and reduce crime.
The reasoning is that it is wisdom and compassion is needed now because of the opium deaths rates and the helplessness and hopelessness in the lives of drug addicts. However, this type of e drug addiction problem will increase over time as evidenced by the finding in other countries if we emulate their actions.
What’s My Point?
The progressive liberal views on drugs of this writer and his followers in agreement with legalized recreational marijuana is a hypocrisy.  Medical evidence has proven that a significant number of marijuana’s uses minds will be affected to bridge them to the use of harder drug use.
In other words, same as the meaning of having your cake (DRUGS) and eating it (NO CRIME) OR DAMAGE TO BRAINS) too, the same as being wise and making foolish choices.
Criminal drug suppliers know that if they offer free samples of hard drugs to a marijuana user who seeks a more potent fix, the user will become addicted in time and the seller will gain a permanent customer.
In the same sense, when we legalize recreational marijuana, more people will try it and result and over time more hard drugs will be provided by a gang or criminal suppliers as is experienced in Holland.
In other words, over time, the government will help supply gangs and criminals with more customers.
We need to understand the differences between wisdom and folly. Wisdom leads to long life and folly of drug addiction leads to death in body and soul. Same as recreational marijuana will lead to folly and a host of other problems such as hard drugs, higher deadly auto accidents, gangs and criminal sellers.
What to Do?
If interested, read a previous post to address the responsibility of legislators, broadcasters, news sources to warn and educate the truth being told about drug use risks findings of the CDC.
Education, personal responsibility, and incentives are needed to address the drug crisis in the USA instead of government promote drug use while knowing both the medical facts and significant risks of drug addiction.
In other words, are you a person who believes legalized recreational marijuana is a personal choice and the user has a Right of freedom to choose? Then why should wise non-user taxpayers also have the same Rights and freedom to choose not to pay permanently to support foolish free choices made by drug users?
You Decide
Is it wise to state because it will cost less for taxpayers to provide free ‘fixes’ for drug addicts instead of passing legislation to educate and spread truthful warnings about the foolish risks to hopefully prevent them from making foolish choices proven by a government taxpayer funded health agency medical studies?
Over time, what will the real costs be to taxpayers to provide more social services to a greater number of drug addicts in the USA?
