Where and how to begin to control these assault weapons being sold in USA?
There are approximately eight million AR-15 types of assault weapons in the USA. Is it possible to prevent another mass shooting from occurring again in the USA with these type weapons?
If so, where and how to begin such a massive control process is the subject of this post.
Questions and Answers
Why zero in on assault weapons and not other types or gun models?
Because of the past deadly events this year that demonstrated the suitability of high numbers of carnage of hundreds of innocent victims.
What about the other guns in existence which have resulted in over 11,000 homicides deaths in 2016 in the USA?
Frankly, I do not know what can be realistically and practically done because of the estimated 300 million guns now in existence in the USA. Perhaps by requiring liability insurance and more strict penalties. gun carnage may lessen over time.
What to Do Starting Now?
Begin by requiring all new sales of any gun for the purchaser to show proof of liability insurance from a private insurer before they may be sold. Private insurer would be more prudent with better common sense than many Government politicians who allow anyone to purchase off the shelf in minutes an assault rifle rather than subject a buyer to have a thorough background check made at the buyers expense before granting a policy.
Then require all States to enact private insurance for all gun owners or be liable for medical and related costs for victims rather than the Federal Government heath programs to pay the victims medical and related costs which currently totals close to one billion dollars a year.
Keep in mind an insurer must pay damages to victims from a limited business accounts instead of what the Government now pays from taxpayers.
Second Amendment to the Constitutional Rights?
If interested, read a Forbes article in the Source Links below, which explains why insurance requirements n gun purchases would not violate any existing gun ownership rights.
Banning assault weapons under the Brady Act worked to reduce homicides with the use of these typed of weapons in the past until Congress failed to reinstate the Act after ten years.
King Solomon
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. (Proverb 22:3)
In My Opinion
With the huge number of people with mental problems in the USA, estimated at twenty percent, we need to make prudent common-sense decisions to hopefully reduce the carnage of innocent victims
The consequences and high risk of continued carnage capable on innocent victims if not only folly, it is madness and folly
To continue to allow this problem swing like a hinge back and forth in Congress each time the wind blows in another tragedy and witness politicians continue to turn over and over without ever doing anything is preposterous. (contrary to reason or common sense; utterly absurd or ridiculous.)
