What are we and politicians overlooking and not seeing (Psychological Set ) about the pandemic?
The Chicago Tribune articles contain gloomy news about the coronavirus.
For Example
Columnist opinion Protecting public health is the key to restoring a robust economy.
Covid-19 adds to crisis in ZIP codes with high crime areas, high unemployment, drugs, and poverty.
Diesel fuel probably the reason Cities globally saw cleaner air after shut down, not Chicago.
Fake (N95) Masks a Real Danger.
Etc. etc.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient story of what the core reason that appears in my opinion why the USA is overlooking the quickest solution to reducing COVID-19 infections.
King Solomon
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9)
Novel Excerpt
Solomon, I noticed you studied the writings closely before you solved the riddle. Why did you do that?”
“We have a saying. Sometimes you must gaze upon details for a time in order to better comprehend a problem.” I replied.
“We also have a saying. Gaze not overmuch, and let thy vision be dimmed. It seems we have two contradictory sayings Solomon.”
“I do not believe so. My saying means that sometimes we need to study the details of a problem closely in order to find a solution. Your saying states that if you look at a problem too closely for too long, you may become distracted in meaningless details and fail to comprehend what is most important.” I replied.
“I was hoping you would say that Solomon. I believe there is a problem we most discuss candidly to prevent us from becoming distracted from the reason of my visit.”
Definition if Psychological Set
An experience by making people especially sensitive to specific kinds of information. A perceptual set, also called perceptual expectancy, is a predisposition to a “perception” in a certain way.
Sets can be created by “motivations” and so can result in people interpreting ambiguous situations so that they see what they want to see.
What’s My Point?
What is the reason for the visit of Coronavirus visit to humanity is not the subject of this post?
What is the subject is the fact that we need to open our eyes and wake up to engage in doing what we know is the most effective way to reduce the spread of the virus until a cure and vaccine is hopefully discovered?
The obvious is being obscured in our vision by the same above ancient verse and novel excerpt.
In My Opinion
Everyone needs to take seriously the virus and understand how the virus is being spread about and engage in the same procedures as medical personnel do in hospitals while treating highly infectious patients.
If we all wake up from our psychological set to see and do the same thing, the rate will be reduced and the higher the reductions of the infections are reduced, the quicker the rate of infections will be reduced.
