Did Mayor Lightfoot use the appropriate word to describe the shooters of thirteen victims in Chicago?
The Chicago Tribune article titled, Shooting an Act of Cowardness, reported the mass shooting of 13 at a memorial house gathering.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to question the wisdom of the word choice of coward to determine which word will have a greater e contemporary description in the eyes of the victims community, an idiom, and a proverb.
Definitions – Merriam-Webster
Coward – one who shows disgraceful fear or timidity
Terrorist – relating to, or characteristic of terrorists or terrorism : practicing or involving violent acts of terror
Fool – a person lacking in judgment or prudence

“Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beholder”
The adage that beauty is in the eye of the beholder posits a subjective interpretation of physical attractiveness. Yet there is strong consensus between observers as to which individuals are beautiful. To what extent are evaluations of beauty agreed-upon within and across cultures? And insofar as there is agreement regarding what qualifies as beautiful, what explains this consensus?

What’s My Point?
Using coward to describe the shooters is contrary to the idiom that describes that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For example, gang members or terrorists may consider a shooter to be a hero to gangland peers.
However, the proverb describes the opposite actions of coward, terrorist, or fool.
A righteous person’s actions or fruit of their actions as being “a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives” rather than destroys or kills lives.
In My Opinion
Mayor Lightfoot should have used the word fools instead of cowards. This would leave no confusion or doubt in the eyes of everyone who might believe that their actions were wise or brave in the eyes of their peers, gang, terrorist leaders’ indoctrination, beliefs, teachings, or agenda of evil.
Evil or folly actions result in the opposite meaning of wisdom or righteousness.
In other words, shooting someone brings death or destruction of the trees of life of humans, whereas righteousness actions produce living fruits on human trees of life.

Should there be any doubt in our contemporary culture of what are wise or foolish actions or objectives in life in the eyes of wise or foolish beholders?
Is the absence of teaching religion in schools what is missing in our contemporary culture that is resulting in evil rather than righteous actions in the eyes of shooters?
Should gang shooters be considered and include as being terrorists subject to Federal vs. State laws?
